Besser
Manufacturing Company was established in 1904 when
Jesse Besser produced the first hand-tamp block
machine and opened a new and exciting field for the company. By
1937, Jesse Besser's nephew, Philip M. Park,
recognized the potential for concrete masonry overseas. He took
a Besser K-12 model block machine to Puerto Cabello,
Venezuela to produce block for a housing project. Under his
leadership, the international arena became a growth market for
the company. In 1977, James C. Park, son of Philip M.
Park, became the president of Besser Company and led
the company into the following decades where the production of
concrete products was automated, while improving product
quality. The addition of strategic core products extended the
company's product line to encompass an increasing portion of the
equipment and services crucial to the growing concrete products

Curtis took on the responsibilities of Besser president
in 1999 while James Park retained his involvement in
the company as chief executive officer. Besser Company currently
serves the pipe, block, paving, precast, cement, ready-mix,
landscape, aggregates and prestressed industries. The company
operates from offices in Alpena. Oscoda, San Antonio, Montreal,
Holland, Iowa, California and Simem. |
