Precast concrete boxes can be applied as single runs or multiple cells, depending on need. Three-sided precast concrete boxes are used in environmentally sensitive areas to channel flowing streams under roadways. They are often used for passage ways for many types of animals. Four-sided boxes used for pedestrian crossings have become commonplace under streets, railroads and highways in urban areas. Precast concrete boxes are used for chambers that secure building utilities providing excellent security and convenient access to HVAC piping, electric, and cable systems. Precast boxes used for storm water vaults meet environmental and structural design challenges. Boxes have even been used for building tunnels to house rail systems below grade. On the golf course, boxes have gone beyond the common application of waterway crossings to include underpasses for carts and people to make courses safer. There are documented applications of boxes being used to house conveyors for carrying material below grade from material delivery points to production facilities. In marine environments, boxes ave been used for dual purpose piers and fish habitat, in-stream deflection structures to channel current, bank stabilization structures, dams, and artificial reefs. Even playgrounds have been designed using boxes to provide long lasting play structures. Precast concrete boxes have been used by the military for bunkers, and for firing ranges by private organizations and individuals.

Let's hear from you. In what ways have you seen precast concrete boxes applied?
