In 2009, the CCPA/ACTB Board of Directors agreed to proceed with promotion of the Association’s Charter for Sustainable Development. CCPA Producers may sign the Charter and voluntarily operate their concrete pipe production facilities in a sustainable manner and produce products that are sustainable, as they have been doing for many years.
In the Charter, participating Producers acknowledge the need to go beyond legislation and take voluntary actions to help build a sustainable community, and commit that they will do this by working towards the adoption of the following principles:
- Develop products that improve the quality and sustainability of the built environment.
- Liaise with local communities to foster mutual understanding and respect.
- Manage all waste streams effectively and minimize waste disposal to landfills.
- Minimize pollution and emissions associated with production and transportation.
- Operate in a responsible manner to protect employees, contractors and visitors.
- Operate in a financially sustainable manner without compromising legal, quality or sustainability principles.
- Operate to the highest ethical standards necessary to develop a skilled and competent workforce.
- Operate to the highest quality standards necessary to create loyal customers and consumers.
- Protect and enhance the natural environment adjacent to precast products production.
- Recognize that competition encourages development of sustainable products and practices.
- Use energy efficiently.
- Use primary resources efficiently and promote the use of waste by-products.
- Use water efficiently and minimize demand on mains and water supplies.
- Work with other organizations to deliver sustainable policies and practices.
